The Investment That Changes Everything

The investment that changes everything*

David sat across from his CEO, a seasoned industry veteran who had seen every machine, every innovation, and every sales pitch before. The CEO was a good guy, but prickly when it came to spending money.

The CEO leaned back; arms crossed. “So, you want me to invest in another machine? What’s wrong with our current setup?”

David had been preparing for this. He knew the numbers. He knew the frustrations. And more importantly, he knew what the Kibby G6.300 could do.

Speed that wins contracts

“We’re too slow,” David said, boldly getting straight to the point. “Every time a hotel chain or a casino asks for a sample, we take weeks. Meanwhile, our competitors are turning their samples around faster. We’re losing deals because we can’t get samples in front of clients quickly enough.”

He slid a sample across the desk.

“I made this in one hour.”

The CEO raised an eyebrow. “One hour? That’s impossible and why would you stop production to make just one sample?”

David was ready for this response from the CEO. “I didn’t use one of our production looms, I asked Modra to make this sample as a trial for me on their new Kibby G6.300 machine. It can be made so quickly because it only needs one package of yarn for each colour to make the sample. The features on the new Kibby G6.300 mean I could make more samples, get faster approvals, and ultimately win more contracts. Right now, we’re leaving money on the table because we can’t move quickly enough.”

Lower costs, less waste

David knew that the CEO was under budget pressure. “Right now, every sample we make costs us more than it should. We waste yarn, we waste time, and we waste labour.”

The CEO looked at him, his expression unreadable. “Go on.”

More creativity, more customers

David pressed forward. “Our design and product development team is limited by our current setup. The Kibby G6.300 gives them the freedom to create new designs and endless colour variations. That means we’re no longer telling clients ‘no’ when they ask to see the same pattern in multiple colourways… as well as speed, we gain flexibility.”

The real question

David let the words settle for a moment. How long would he have to wait for a reaction? After what seemed like an eternity, he could not stand it. So, he delivered the close.

“The question isn’t whether we can afford to buy the Kibby G6.300 - it’s whether we can afford not to.”

He leaned back. “Every month we wait, we lose contracts. We waste money. We give our competitors an edge. This machine pays for itself in the contracts we win and the costs we cut.”

Silence.

The CEO looked at the sample again, turning it over in his hands. Then, a slow nod.

“Get me the numbers.”

David exhaled.

It looked like his gamble in asking Modra to run a trial to test the Kibby machine using his yarns and patterns was going to pay off. This wasn’t just another machine. This was the investment that would change everything.
